Melantha of Mirage fame Born to a musical family in the musical town of Moratuwa, Melantha was blessed to get his first piano lesson at the tender age of 5 from his mother, late Mrs. Trila Perera, a classical pianist and a music teacher at Princess of Wales College Moratuwa, and his first guitar lesson from his brother, Rukshan Perera, when Melantha was just 8 years old. Melantha's first performance on stage in front of a large audience was with the band titled "Junior Chimes" playing lead guitar and keyboards at 8 years of age, and rest is history!
After completing school with a passion for cricket and athletics, Melantha started performing with known bands as the lead guitarist or as the keyboardist.
Some of the bands he performed through his career are Catseye, Pearl, Jade, Kings, Clan and finally became a founder member of the famous band Mirage as the keyboardist for the past 27 long years. Mirage spent 8 years performing in Europe and 13 years in Dubai UAE performing to varying audiences and has also performed in Australia, Zambia, Oman, UK, Bahrain, Bangladesh and Qatar.

In every band Melantha has performed, he has always gone that extra mile to ensure the musical quality of the band - getting individual parts for the song, distributing harmony to other members, programming drums, sampling tones, and even balancing the sound while performing - these are some of his specialized areas and without a doubt Melantha has been a huge asset in every single band he has performed with.
On top of being a multi-instrumentalist and a vocalist with multiple talents, Melantha has also become a composer and a recording engineer. He wrote 9 songs for debut Album of Mirage in 1997, arranged them, and recorded them with Mirage in Dubai. It was telecast on Channel Mtv Channel V & Asia Tv.

SonDewshan Perera
Melantha has written various songs since then and recorded with Mirage and with other bands and sometimes playing all instruments by himself for the recordings and displaying his superior talent in music. He was the producer for the first album of the band "Battery" led by Melantha's son Devshan Perera! & especially the song "Lau Eka" Shoobi Duwap was a great hit. He Arranged Music for the song "Land Belongs to you" from Gypsies & have played keyboards for hits songs like Lassana Lokaye..etc.
Another facet to this multi-talented multi-instrumentalist is the ability to compose, arrange and perform acapellas – songs with no instruments. His knowledge in advanced harmonization is very apparent when you listen to all of the acapellas he has arranged! But how did he master this complicated area of harmonization?
Melantha has always been ready to give a helping hand for other up and coming musicians – he trained the Army band in Rockhouse Kotahena and groomed them to perform at professional level with proper instrumentation, vocals. Melantha also played a major role training the “Ranaviru Real Star” participants to become true stars with confidence!! Another project Melantha initiated with his good friend Richard and executed successfully the “Battle of the Bands”, where young musicians, singers and bands had the opportunity to perform on a weekly basis on TV.
SCHOOL OF MUSICRIVERSHEEN
Today, Melantha feels that the time is right for him to share with the youngsters & the young at heart this immense knowledge of music he has acquired through the years. Moratuwa has produced many fabulous musicians and a variety of fabulous songs, and this school will help the beginners & the performing musicians to continue that standard and perhaps take it to the next level. "Riversheen School of Music" is not only for the serious student who wants to end up performing in a band, but also for those who like to continue music as a hobby - learn to strum the guitar and sing a song or play a song on the piano - and yes, this is not only for the youngsters but also for the young at heart! MY OWN BANDSIGN
He has formed his own band named "Sign" He greatly appreciate the members he has bagged in & you could see few sits on the panel of judges. You could hear the originals songs very soon.
